Effect of High Temperature and Chemical Treatment on Change of pH , EC and Physical Characteristics of Domestic Organic Raw Materials for Pot Plants

Abstract
Four domestic organic raw materials were analyaed and evaluated with four treatments such as heat treatments, NaOH, Ca(OH)©ü, alkaline H©üO©ü in comparison with conventional pot raw media such as peat moss, leaf mold, and mixed soil. Hot water soaking increased the porosity ratio and water holding capacity but decreased the bulk density. Steam treatments decreased pH, water holding capacity, and electric conductivity. When NaOH was applied to organic materials, pH, EC and water holding capacity increased. Bulk density and water holding capacity of raw waterials were improved by Ca(OH)©ü. Alkaline hydrogen peroxide-treated organic raw materials increased pH, porosity, water holding capacity, and decreased bulk density.
